Kylo Ren used an unstable crossguard lightsaber, and he quite enjoyed the sinister crackling emitted by the blade. The crossguard lightsaber is an interesting design incorporating three blades. Most of these variants are found with single blades but can be attributed to others too. In the past, Jedi frequently adorned their lightsabers with embellishments and beautiful patterns, and many were continually adapted in part due to changes in galactic fashion, a practice that can be traced back to Star Wars' High Republic Era. All lightsabers are in some way or another reflections of their respective users down to Star Wars' many lightsaber colors. Some lightsabers have bent hilts, helping to improve the design for dueling some have different nozzles to give the blade a slightly different shape and, of course, lightsabers come in all sorts of different sizes. Similarly, single-bladed lightsabers can be constructed from almost anything Aayla Secura used a blade made of durasteel designed for durability, while Rey's new lightsaber from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s ending was constructed in part from her old staff as a sign of her character growth. As the kyber crystal does the hard work of focusing the plasma, even non-Jedi can use all lightsabers - but only a Force user can operate them to their full potential. This history makes the passing of Anakin's lightsaber to his son Luke particularly important and explains why Kylo Ren was so outraged to see his grandfather's blade in the hands of Rey. George Lucas chose to give Jedi lightsabers in part because he knew swords have historically been seen as ritualistic objects, imbued with mystical significance, or used as proof of birthright. This is the stance used by the likes of Luke, Anakin, and Rey Skywalker to name but a few. In The Mandalorian season 3 finale, Bo-Katan Kryze became the final wielder of the Darksaber after Moff Gideon crushed it using his Mandalorian-inspired armor. The most famous lightsaber type is the standard blade. Aside from Mandalorians who have wielded the blade like Din Djarin, Bo-Katan Kryze, and Sabine Wren (who is due to debut in live-action in the upcoming Ahsoka on Disney+), non-Mandalorians like Moff Gideon and Darth Maul have also wielded the saber. Several characters have wielded the Darksaber since its introduction into Star Wars canon. Despite being a uniquely colored lightsaber, the Darksaber commands the respect of all Mandalorians. Yet its most notable use is its live-action debut in The Mandalorian. Since its first appearance, the Darksaber appeared in several Star Wars projects from Disney including Star Wars: Rebels. The Darksaber is a one-of-a-kind blade created several centuries before the Skywalker Saga by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian Jedi. Introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars in 2010, the Darksaber has become an integral weapon and plot point in Star Wars canon. Jackson powering up Mace Windu's purple blade in 2002's Attack of the Clones, yellow lightsabers were actually one of the first non-green, red, or blue sabers seen on-screen thanks to the 2000 PS1 game Jedi Power Battles, which included Plo Koon wielding a yellow lightsaber. In Star Wars Legends, yellow lightsabers are used by Jedi Sentinels, and when the ancient Jedi Jaden Korr purified a red lightsaber crystal, it turned yellow, which perhaps indicates a pious nature within its user. Other characters such as Asajj Ventress and Ahsoka have also wielded this lightsaber color at some point. Little is known about this particular lightsaber color, so whether these are made intentionally yellow to distinguish the guards, or the crystal chooses the temple guards by turning yellow is currently unclear. This color is almost exclusively used by Jedi Temple guards, who carry double-bladed yellow lightsaber pikes.
